Plumber, Drainer and Gasfitter Licences Explained
A plumbing job in Queensland needs two licences behind it. The worker on the tools holds an occupational licence proving trade skill, and the company carrying the job holds a contractor licence proving it can run a business. The QBCC grants both.
Three classes matter to a homeowner:
Plumber
covers water work inside and around a home, except jobs that need their own endorsement.
Drainer
covers drainage below ground level, again apart from endorsed work.
Gasfitter
gas work, from fitting a cooktop to certifying a system, sits with a licensed gasfitter alone, and our gas fitting work is covered by that class.
Whether the job is a laundry hose on Cornelius Street or a new vanity near the schools, every job is done by a licensed plumber.

Who Checks Plumbing Work and What You Receive
Two bodies share the checking: the QBCC licenses the trade and files notifiable work notices, while the local council grants permits and carries out inspections. Regulated work falls into three QBCC categories, and all of them must be done by a licensed plumber or drainer, which the QBCC says protects the home, your health and your rights.
You receive paperwork at the end:
A Form 4 copy
after notifiable work, which goes to whoever engaged us, and the QBCC will provide a replacement if yours goes missing.
A gas compliance certificate
on the day gas work finishes, with a copy reaching the gas network operator within 5 days.
An owner can also request that the council look over notifiable work, at whatever stage suits.

A call to (07) 3523 7121 or a message through our contact page starts it: what is wrong, where, and how urgent it seems.

We Diagnose on Site
We test the fixture or pipe run until the fault has one clear cause, then explain it in plain words before anything gets touched.
- 3

You Approve a Fixed Quote
You'll see a fixed quote before any work starts, with flat-rate pricing and no hidden fees. Nothing moves until you are happy with the figure.
- 4

We Test and Hand It Over
After the repair, we test the work, then the paperwork follows: a Form 4 copy for notifiable work, or a gas compliance certificate for gas work. You pay on site by card or EFTPOS once everything is finished.

Questions People Ask About Our Licence
Call (07) 3523 7121How can I check a plumber's licence in Queensland?
Search the QBCC's licence register online and the plumber's details come up, number and all. A property search on the same registers also shows any Form 4 recorded against the address.
Does gas work in a Clontarf home need a separate licence?
Yes, only a licensed gasfitter may do gas work. That covers installing, altering or certifying a system and its pipework, and you can ask to sight the gas work licence before anyone starts.
Is plumbing work in Clontarf covered by a warranty?
Yes, our lifetime labour warranty covers the labour, and our Fix-It-or-It's-Free guarantee (T&Cs apply) stands behind the job.
What does QBCC licensed mean for my job?
QBCC licensed means the QBCC has granted the licences the law requires: an occupational licence for the worker and a contractor licence for the business carrying the job. We say QBCC licensed, never certified.
